Song of the day: We didn’t come from money

Posted on

Hello songers,

Well what would you do if you were an adolescent stuck in an island with sheep as your main inhabitants? Create kick ass music you say? Correct! At least this is true of Ella Yelich-O’Connor alias Lorde. She is sixteen and she has curly brown hair. How could I not approve?

Her voice has a Lana quality to it. Her singing/talking style reminding me of Lilly Allen with her lyrics revolving around the patheticness of trying to be a cool teenager and the materialistic pop culture. All accompanied by some electro pop background.

But every song’s like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin’ in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin’ the hotel room,
We don’t care, we’re driving cadillacs in our dreams.
But everybody’s like cristal, maybach, diamonds on your time piece.
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash.
We don’t care, we aren’t caught up in your love affair.

This young singer-songwriter got herself noticed by a little company called Universal and her EP released in March is now exploding. Here is the hit single of it Royals. I like the video.

Props to Vedran
