Song of the day: GO TO CONCERTS

Hello kids,

So as always after a lovely weekend of music I come to you with more great new suggestions for a live music experience.
I have said it several times and I will say it again: GO WATCH MUSIC CONCERTS! This is the best way to really appreciate bands and keep the music industry afloat.
How would you like it if you did something incredible and no one was there to witness it?
I promise you won’t regret it.

So not only do I have one new suggestion I have over 10! I finally updated the concert calendar on our FB Page.
Because the following months are going to be BUSY in and around Geneva on the music front.
As always Les Docks gets the number 1 prize with bringing you the most outstanding bands.
So go check it out and put in your calendar so you don’t forget and buy tickets already so you don’t have to deal with disappointment when they sell out.

So the first of these concerts to highlight is Of Monsters and Men, which are playing at Les Docks on Wed.
You should remember from a previous SOTD where I gave out Little Talks. They have a lovely Arcade First look and sound to them.
I can highly recommend the concert – check out all the details here.

Here is a lovely live version of Dirty Paws

Hope to see you on Wed

Hello kids,

So yesterday I gave you the new tune in preview of the release of the XX’s highly exciting second album.
Today I do a similar thing for Bloc Party’s long anticipated 4th album called Four.

As I mentioned in my review, I heard a couple of snippets at Heineken Open’er in Poland earlier this month and I loved what I heard.

So I give you the first released single in wait for 20th of August when we get to hear the whole thing.

Song of the day: Go to Berlin GO!

Posted on

HELLO KIDS,

So after my AMAZING weekend in Berlin I am all alternatived up. This place gets INDIE MUSIC.

I spend Saturday night at Wilde Renate – for all you alternative lovers THIS IS A MUST. It reminded me of my students days spend on Long street in retro, dirty vintage, it’s-cool-to-be-trash clubs.
My favourite of course being Tuesdays at Fiction (with none other than Tommy Gun).

The minute I queued I hated myself for wearing heels at such a place (Geneva is conditioning me!). I was possibly the only tall girl doing so. So I made sure to afro my hair as big as it could and mess my make up a bit. The encourgaing thumbs up from fellow afroers around me reassured me that I looked crazy enough.

But this place was CRAZY – an old run down house with three stories. All filled with mystical fairlights, ivy, 50s couch, dark lighting, burlesque statues, an old bed with red broken mattress, madness everywhere. And then of course the most arty people of your life. This looked like the haunted house where all the vampires loved to party. Upstairs there was a gift from the musical god of a DJ that pumped awesome beats. And the crowd was so friendly and inviting as we hoped around and jointly cheered to the tunes. An accepting environment of difference and weirdness. Just refreshing.

Anyways so back to the music. I found just about the perfect tune to bridge the two latest topic. One Clock Opera (my reobsession from last week) and two Berlin.

Well its none other than one of the fabulous songs on Metronomy’s  The English Rivera Unreleased Remixes album – and yes you guess it its Clock Opera remix of The Bay.

So have a listen and abide by the repeating commands of: Go to Berlin GO! (and while you are it why not Tokyo)

Hello Kids,

Since spontaneously this week we seem to be having Icelandic artists (Sóley and Of Monsters and Men). I thought I’d continue the theme and give you Sóley’s band.

Seabear

The seven piece band came together in 2007 with humble beginning to bring us folksy whimsical music, but since then they have grown quite significantly and have toured internationally.
So look out for them in the town near you.

Here is Arms

Personally I prefer Sóley’s solo work much more but hey. Giving you the choice to choose. This is also happy chilled music if you need it.

Dear all,

I found this lovely artist by luck last week and I am rather amazed of how she hid from me.
One watch of this video and  I really was musically ear blown away.
To be fair, she hasn’t been around for that long – she brought an EP Theater Island back in 2010.
And last year a lovely full length album We Sink.

And if you recognize some of the sound she is a member of Seabear who is now also exploring a solo career.

There is no doubt about it she is something special. And what with being Icelandic she does share the sweet and dreamy-strange of Sigur Ros.

So before I waste any more of your time. Here is the incredibly indie and mesmerizing Sóley.

And I’ll Drown – you got to love the Loops in this video
