Song of the day: Two versions are better than one

Posted on

Hello kids,

So this Monday Morning I know exactly how to get you in a good mood. I know we are all excited about Daft Punk coming back after 8 years of a wait and you know that here at MasMusic we have been a fan of Daughter since the very start.

Well lil miss did a lovely cover of Get Lucky and I’m playing it on repeat.

And that’s how you gently groove on a Monday.

Song of the day: I want him but we’re not right

Good monday morning kidos,

I am very excited to share more music from one of my favourite discoveries of last year: Daughter.

You may remember the heart shaking goosebumps producing Home from their self released The Wild Youth EP. Well they are now signed to the very prestigious 4AD label and have released their first full album named If You Leave.

Elena Tora’s singing continues to move me. Here is Smother.

Song of the day: Bruned out flames should never re-ignite

Hello kids,

I got such positive feedback from yesterday’s track that I thought I would give out another one from Daughter.
This is Home – a little livelier sound due to the effective clapping type of sound in the background.
I love the build-up to the final “and I thought you might”

As always giving you quality tunes,

I wish I could make a soundtrack to my life and breathe in the notes every day

Song of the day: Setting fire to our inside for fun

Hi everyone,

This is a song I received last night from my best friend back in South Africa and since then I have not stopped listening to this band or this single. This is very much the total antithesis of yesterday’s happy clappy tune but sometimes it’s nice to get some dark and gloomy music. Just every now and again.

The band is called Daughter – and if you want to be in the know of up and coming big talent (in the alternative scene) then place your bets here. There is something haunting in her melodies that enters somewhere private whether you like it or not. It’s a very broody and grated sound.

There is not much talk yet of this band but from the searching that I did I find out this band is made up of Elena Tonra (only 21) and her musical and romantic partner Igor Haefeli. Not exactly sure what is the status of their relationship but we hope she does not sing about him considering her slightly depressive take on relationship.

I find her lyrics a very refreshing way of saying something very cliché and we forgive her for being overly dramatic (myself being a dramatic). And the delivery is simple yet very effectively blended and constructed with the correct pauses after powerful lines.

So enough chatting here is Youth from their recent EP The Wild Youth.

And if you’re still breathing, you’re the lucky ones.
‘Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs.
Setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting names of the lovers that went wrong

I wish I could make a soundtrack to my life and breathe in the notes every day
