Song of the day: Merry Mas!

Hello kids,

So hope you are feeling festive by now. So let me give you another alternative to those cheesy carols and then I promised I’m done for another year – with the Christmas carols, not the bloging (sorry). So along with the XX another obsession you may have realized by now is Passion Pit. I love their albums, their remixes of other artists and remixes of their song. Pretty much, its like a musical butter – you add it to anything and it just get better.

So they released this Christmasy song last year called All These Trees. It’s rather cute.

Then if you want a real laugh I came across Adam Horne, a musician that did pretend covers of classic Christmas tunes as if he were popular indie bands such as Bon Iver, the xx, Mumford & Sons, Gorillaz etc. Have a look at this.

Now I just need to get through New Years. At least I got this awesome tshirts from my older brother to make it worth all this forced merryness.

Song of the day: all these things about me you never can tell

Hello kids,

So after yesterday new light happy acoustic electro tunes I am going you something a little older and more rock. Their name is the Joy Formidable, and they are no new find. They have been around since 2007. I found them because they continuously popped up on my ‘related artists’ section of some of my favourite artists on Spotify. So then I found out it’s because they toured with the Editors (basics of Indie 101) and Passion Pit. So that’s enough to give them credit. They are now actually signed with an Indie label run by one of the members of Passion Pit. All good signs.

So here is Whirring

The end is for the hardcore rockers and there’s even a 6:40 min extended version on Spotify if you like: The Joy Formidable – Whirring)

Song of the day: The devil will want you back

Hello kids,

So yes it’s about time I start acknowledging the new Two Door Cinema Club album Beacon, cause technically they still are indie I guess. Irish version of PhoenixmeetsVampireWeekend really exploded with their debut album back in 2010, and the second album is taking them from strength to strength.

This is what I call very easily digestible indie, so all of you should give it a listen and love it.

I wanted to give you Wake Up but it got taken down all over youtube. So here is Handshake instead.

There’s even some Passion Pit in there.

I wish I could make a soundtrack to my life and breathe in the notes every day

Song of the day goes on holiday

Dear Song of the dayers,

So I am going on holiday for 3 weeks today. So you will be song of the day-less while I am away. Now, now hold back the tears.

However don’t worry I am not leaving you empty handed. A reminder of the 300 days of song of the day playlist. And because it’s a rather large playlist – I have started creating a new playlist and uploading all the songs since then.

So how bout you use the break to catch up on some great singles you may have missed.

And of course my holiday includes a serious focus on music – so I will be at Heineken Open’er in Poland enjoying one of the best line ups in Europe this summer. I hope those of you who stay in Geneva enjoy Paleo and Montreux. I’ll be back with some great tunes.

So I leave you with a happy clappy tune to set off on a good note. Its Passion Pit Remix AGAIN (sorry I really am obsessed).

It also comes from Gotye – which you will remember from Somebody that I use to know (if you didn’t catch that you are definitely not on FB cause that video exploded)

Song of the day: Happy Fete de la Musique

Hello kids,

So as I get a reobssession (yes that’s not a word) for Passion Pit the gemy jams keep emerging.
Here is a remix they did of Ra Ra Riot’s Ghost Under Rock.

I listened to this song about 50 times yesterday.

Have a lovely weekend – and enjoy FETE DE LA MUSIQUE. Finally something serious to be celebrating.
There’s stuff going on everywhere around Geneva so make sure to check it out

I’ll be at Hackney Weekend (London) trying to find some new inspiration to share with you.

I wish I could make a soundtrack to my life and breathe in the notes every day

Song of the day: Two tracks are better than one

Hello kids,

So sorry about yesterday some serious technical issues prevented me from sending your daily song.
So you remember I was raving about Passion Pit. Well not only did the popularity of Manners lead to loads of artist making remixes of their songs.
BUT they also did remixes of other artists songs.

Today I give you a mash up of Passion Pit vs. MGMT.

It’s called Sleepykids! – it’s easy enough for you to figure out what are the two songs that are mixed.

I’m quite a fan really

As Austin Powers would say GROOVY BABY!

Hello kids,

So I have been hugely looking forward the release of Passion Pit’s new album.
This American electro indie pop melange started off with their first EP in 2008 called Chunk of Change.
That gave them enough support and confidence to follow it with their hugely successfully and INCREDIBLE first full album called Manners in 2009.

You will remember that I gave you the hit single Sleepyhead (a favourite of my DJ sets) and Moth’s Wings. But the whole album is great – highly recommended.

So while we wait for Gossamer to come out next month we will be happy with the two singles they have released off the album so dar.

I’ll be Alright

How can you do anything but bounce in your chair to these ones. Or if you are crazy like me bounce on your exercise ball that you sit on all day. My musical experience is definitely enhanced by this seating choice.

It’s the little things that get you through the corporate monotonous days.
