Song of the day: Introducing The Outs

Hello kids,

Sometimes the internet still amazes me – like when I get contacted by a Brazilian vintage rock band. And hell they are rocking so why not cover them on Featured Fridays. They are called The Outs and they released the video for their new single Right Or Wrong on Wednesday.

Another fun fact is  they were crowned winners of a 2008 contest judging Oasis cover songs. Their version of ‘Bag It Up’ took first prize in this competition and led Noel Gallagher to stating that they really ‘got to the heart of the track’. Well hell – what else is there to say.

Song of the day: I dance like an ill fit

Posted on

Hello kids,

I’m keeping it rather simple today. The british band is called Wave Machines. They are indie rock mix with some electro – reminds me of Hot Chip. It’s glitchy and great.

The song I like is Ill Fit.

And there you go.

Song of the day: Girls Rock

Hello songers,

Its MoooooNNNDAY Morning.

I know you are grumpy but how bout some rare rock’n’roll girl duo to get all the ladies powered up and all the boys ….. up.
Well you know.

So anyways their name is Deap Vally and they are two hardcore women from California. They sound like a darker version of The White Stripes just all girl dominated. Not sure if I could listen to it all day but it’s really quite impressive and the critics agreed ever since they released this single mid-year. Waiting out for their début album to be released this year.

Here is Gonna Make My Own Money

If that doesn’t fire you up not sure what would.

Song of the day: all these things about me you never can tell

Hello kids,

So after yesterday new light happy acoustic electro tunes I am going you something a little older and more rock. Their name is the Joy Formidable, and they are no new find. They have been around since 2007. I found them because they continuously popped up on my ‘related artists’ section of some of my favourite artists on Spotify. So then I found out it’s because they toured with the Editors (basics of Indie 101) and Passion Pit. So that’s enough to give them credit. They are now actually signed with an Indie label run by one of the members of Passion Pit. All good signs.

So here is Whirring

The end is for the hardcore rockers and there’s even a 6:40 min extended version on Spotify if you like: The Joy Formidable – Whirring)

Song of the day: Do you have Legs Like Tree Trunks?

Hello kids,

Sorry for the late post, we are still recovering from last night’s awesome CITIZENS! concert. We will be bringing you a review shortly so I won’t ruin it but let’s just say it was a great way to celebrate one year of LIBERATION!

Now onto today, as you know its Featured Friday and actually we have a very special feature. It’s our first official band promotion request. Actually no, there was someone else who approached us, but let’s say they wouldn’t have liked my review. And my mommy always said, if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say it (she didn’t actually say that, but apparently that’s what moms say).

Anywho, the lovely Matt from mathy indie rock band Legs Like Tree Trunks all the way from Pennsylvania, wrote to us to check out his music and see if we like it. And so I’ve been doing a good 2 weeks digestion and I can tell you they are rather freaking awesome.  They just finished a new record with producer Karl Petersen and its it’s called Future Reference. So just like me you can hear the whole thing on their bandcamp or they are even so kind as to let you download it here for free (how nice is that)! There have a guitar dominated sound (which they sometimes even play in piano type role) with a beautiful lucid drawn out voice connecting each song from start to finish, and I heard different band influences on each song.

On my favourite Snowflake there’s a little Arctic Monkey meets Vampire Weekend and towards the end there’s even Friendly Fires. But let’s stop comparing there are their own band after all with their own sound. I love the repeated guitar sessions and there’s something very raw and whining about the vocals in a good kinda raw and whining way (yes that actually exists). And you can’t help and sway from side to side when they sing do you remember when the moon fell through the sky followed by some aaaahhhing and ooooying and some great clapping. And that contrast between distinct erratic guitar but fluid feel makes it a lovely little single which ends with and added electro-space feel.

So why don’t I just shut up and you listen to it.

So let’s wish them the best as they are busy negotiating with labels and hopefully we will hear more from them soon. Also if you like them, Matt’s younger brother is in an excellent band from Philadelphia called Little Pirouettes. They just released an EP called Weed Debts and although with their individual sound, let’s say you can hear they are related.  They are going on tour together in January.

I wish I could make a soundtrack to my life and breathe in the notes every day

Song of the day: I always want the things that I can’t have

Hello kids,

So I know I promised to give you the second good news of the week. But right now I’m still stuck on Citizens!

I am so incredibly excited for Thursday night’s concert.
I hope to see you all there.
Here is (I’m in Love With Your) Girlfriend.

Song of the day: I just don't know what to do

Hello kids,

So I’ve been giving you loads of new, hot of the tracks tunes. Now let’s also catch you up with some tracks that may have passed right by you unnoticed and unheard in 2009.

This is a weird and wonderful song I love to run to its called So Insane and the band is Discovery.
They are indie, they are rock, they are electronic. And they are American – no one’s perfect.

But the reason you know that they are brilliant is because you have Rostam Batamaglij keyboardist from Vampire Weekend (big love) and Wesley Miles the vocalist from Ra Ra Riot (more love).

How can you go wrong.

I wish I could make a soundtrack to my life and breathe in the notes every day
