Song of the day is back

Posted on

Hello musical kids,

I know I have been really bad. I went on holiday and then I started my new job at an exciting artist management company and I have been very distracted with other musical things.

But then some of you were nice enough to complain, new artist kept sending me submissions and the O2 asked to do a partnership and I realised I owed you all to continue. You are going to have to bear with me as I get back into it – I’m going to try and address all my request mails first.

So to start off – Depeche Mode. There is no need to introduce a band that has been named the most successful electronic band of all time. That’s quite a title. And they are still going at it for good measure. This year they released their thirteenth studio album Delta Machine. And yet again the boys have managed to find a great balance between the upbeatness of electro pop sounds mixed with their unique dark disharmony and influences coming from across music genres to always keep it interesting.

A good example of this is the second single to be released Soothe My Soul

Their in the States at the moment but if you want to catch them in London then they will be playing at the O2 on the 19th of November – so go ahead and buy your Depeche Mode tickets before they are all gone.

Well that wasn’t so hard after all.

Song of the day: She Said! She Said! Take me with you

Hello kids,

So this week is an exciting music week. First of all because on Thursday there is Citizens! playing at L’Usine here in GENEVA and second of all will come tomorrow. Yes that is right, for once you don’t have to go all the way to Lausanne for great live music.

SO YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE (apart from the fact that the tickets will sell out soon) to finally go and watch live music just like I have recommended so many times! So hurry up and buy tickets here and see what all the fuss is about.

So that name should ring a bell, as I gave you their first single Reptile in the past. That hot single was enough of a big deal for them to be called out as Top 20 most exciting band for 2012 by NME last year with Franz Ferdinand helping them out produce some songs.

So if that is not enough reasons to go, have a listen to my favourite on the album that for some reason has not got enough attention She Said, and I’m sure it will win you over

I wish I could make a soundtrack to my life and breathe in the notes every day

Song of the day: Still there must be a more elegant solution

Hello kids,

So remember how I talked about the awesome festival that starting tonight called For Noise.
Well it gets even better, I have 2 tickets for you, selling at a special price for fans of song of the day. So just contact me if you are interested.

So if you want another reason to go tonight. There is also Of Montreal playing. They have been playing since 1997 and so were at the forefront of the indie pop revolution.
Its bright, its happy, it’s got some psychedelic touches and in later stages some fun with synth.

Here is a great single from their latest album that came out earlier this year called Paralytic Stalks, only their 11th album!

Spiteful Intervention

I love the wooooohoooooo part. Weird and wonderful.

It’s fucking sad that we need a tragedy to occur
To gain a fresh perspective in our lives

I wish I could make a soundtrack to my life and breathe in the notes every day

Song of the day: Nox Orae Festival this weekend in Vevey

Hello people,

So today I am happy to bring you my great find of last week. This weekend (Fri-Sat) there is an awesome 2 day festival in Vevey (between Lausanne and Montreaux). The festival is called Nox Orae – and I love the design and the site.

So at first the artist all looked unfamiliar, apart from Gravenhurst. But then I remembered that Fanfarlo had been on my to listen list for a while.
And so I started checking them out in more details as well as browsing over the other acts.

Well turns out the line up is awesome. The bands are mostly fantastic and the price is just the best thing I have ever seen : 40 CHF for the full 2 days (SAY WHHHHAATT?!?). So obviously I am booking tickets today. And I would recommend you do the same. And lets all go along together to enjoy it.

So lets start with Fanfarlo to give you a taste of what there is.

Here is I’m a Pilot

Song of the day: It's a cruel cruel world

Hello everyone,

So this week is a wonderful music week as we get ready  for Caribana Festival.
For those of you who don’t know it, it is a five day festival in Nyon – no not Paleo.

I went last year and I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.

So it starts on Wednesday and the head liner is Gossip. Which if you don’t know by now you should listen to.
They are a three piece Indie Rock band who started releasing music in 1999.
They quickly got a lot of press attention about their controversial singer Beth Ditto who is lesbian, a feminist, punk and very underground.

Anywho either way they are quite cool

Here is their famous Heavy Cross

I wish I could make a soundtrack to my life and breathe in the notes every day

Song of the day: Well you can get out of this party dress but you can't get out of this skin

Hello kids,

So I hope you all successfully got your Paleo tickets. Otherwise watch out for people reselling closer to the time.
And if still in bad luck – contact me – I know some guy who sells  ‘extra’ tickets to these things – no I’m not joking.

So back to the featured artists then.

I give you again BOY. The swiss band I featured a little while back when they played inm Geneva.

I gave you Little Numbers last time, which is the happiest, catchiest tune I’ve heard in a while.

But today I give you the equally brilliant, but much more chilled Skin

Enjoy some local talent

Song of the day: No you girls never know, how you make the boys feel

Dear Song of the Dayers,

People say, better late than never. So I give your afternoon song on crazy busy day.

So after the big hype around the Paleo line up – I thought I’d make a fun theme out of it.
I will be giving you a song from each of the great artists featured in the programme until tickets go out (25 April – next week wed) to lure you into attend most of the days. In case you haven’t heard already  – the tickets sell out in about 30 minutes so you very much need to be prepared!

There really are some great artists included and as always I will do my best to convince you to invest into experiencing music live, as this is truly when your appreciation for music and artists is really developed.

Although I must say that Paleo is not your typical, or far from my favourite, festival. The right atmosphere is very much missing and too calm and passionless for my liking. However if I was here (which I unfortunately am not) I would definitely attend most of the days. There is no doubt that it will be a great (although not optimal) concert experience nonetheless.

So without further ado let me start with the first featured great band: Franz Ferdinand.

I assume you will all know them after the many prizes (NME, MTV, BRIT etc) and recognitions they received. But let us not undermine their importance or greatness, and of course that you all have bobbed around to TAKE ME OUT.

Here is: No You Girls

That’s all for now
